World Language

The World Language program consists of an exploratory sixth grade course in German, French, and Spanish. Students are exposed to basic communication in the target language and culture. Students meet once per six-day cycle on a rotating basis throughout the year. Topics include greetings, colors, numbers, calendar, and significant cultural celebrations. The sixth grade curriculum culminates with the students' choice of language to study throughout both 7th and 8th grade.

The 7th and 8th grade world language curriculum is equivalent to the first year of world language study at the high school. Students meet on a rotating schedule throughout the two years. The four components of language study are speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The department utilizes a variety of interactive modalities which includes textbook, audio, video.
